Shirkers ride to Canterbury on 13th June - anyone interested in the pilgrimage?

Penny Bulley
I am planning a Shirkers ride on Friday 13th June to Canterbury leaving Seal at 9.30am following as much of the Pilgrims way at possible. It will be roughly 55 miles each way. I am planning to cycle one way and get the train back to Sevenoaks but I know some of you love to cycle for longer so may want to cycle home again.
I am doing a recce the week before and will finalise the route and somewhere nice for lunch.
Please let me know if you would be interested
Thanks
Penny

Hi Penny,
At the moment I'm not working on 13th and would like to join your band of merry followers :-) I could be tempted to join john on the return leg. Keep me posted, Tom.

Hi Penny. I will be coming off a night shift but if the body feels up to it I'll be there. Definitely be coming back on the train. Paul.

Great so many of you are interested! I did the road recce on Friday and have worked out a good route most of which is really lovely. I have tried to follow the Pilgrims Way as much as possible but really an MTB is needed for all the byways. There are pretty lanes, pubs and villages en route so we can easily stop for a nice lunch and the bikes will be safe. It is longer than I thought, it was 49 miles to Ashford so I am suggesting that we don't go to Canterbury which will be nearly another 20 miles but aim for Ashford which is very close to the Pilgrims Way and Ashford International has regular trains to Otford. I know Ashford hasn't got the same ring about it as Canterbury but the route into Ashford was surprisngly beautiful- honest! The route goes via Wrotham, Trotiscliffe, Ryarsh, Aylesford, Boxley, Detling, Hollingbourne,Lenham, Westwell and Ashford. The weather forecast looks good so far so fingers crossed.
If any of you want me to send a Garmin Connect link I can do so just let me know

Could you send me a link please Penny.

Penny, I intend to ride, if only to keep the club coach in order.
Penny Bulley
Great: people with tri bars, club coach monitors - all welcome!
Tony has informed me there are good train links also to Sevenoaks if that is closer for some

Hi Penny. Are you intending using the usual meeting points, ie the Chaser or heading off to Wrotham from Seal. Paul. PS Trains are every 30 mins from Ashford, take about 40mins, fare £12:50ish.

P. I would like to come along. Ideally I would join up with you in Wrotham, but I can come to Chaser/Seal.

I would love to join you. Like Dave T, will meet you at Wrotham as The Pilgrim"s Way joins the village.

I'll be at Seal rec for 9.30.

Neil. What time are you intending leaving yours as I don't know Seal area. I can meet you outside the pub if that's ok. Paul.
Penny Bulley
Fab - not going by Chaser or Godden Green so all need to make their way to Seal rec or en route. Wrotham outside the Bull pub would be a good spotn - see you there Dave and Debbie
Paul I will bring matchsticks to prop your eyelids open!
Neil_Colvin
Paul, see you at Bucks Head pub Godden Green at 9.20.

What a great ride today. Many thanks Penny for navigating us down to Ashford via The Pilgrim's Way. Your choice of lunch venue was excellent, soaking up the sun in the pretty Lenham Square was so nice.
