Garmin Express vs Ant Agent

jwiley
Hello - do any of you know whether Strava uploads via the new Garmin Express embedded feature pls? Garmin is clearing trying to get us to ditch the ant agent - but I'm not sure if that is so that we cant use Strava or is truly an enhancement. Thanks

I don't have Garmin Express, so no personal experience. A bit of research led to this:

It looks like Garmin Express breaks Strava integration, which has to be intentional. I'm staying with Communicator for as long as possible. If you've already gone to Express, you may need to roll back to get Strava/Garmin working.

I upload my Garmin via Garmin Express and use www.tapiriik.com to auto-upload to Strava (one time set-up). Seems to work for me.

Thanks John. I had read about tapiriik. Do you pay the $2 per year fee or manually initiate the sync?

I have recently changed to Garmin Express and Tapiriik. You can basically download much more easily from Garmin Express the Tapiriik automatically shoots the data into Strava and Training Peaks if you use that. You don't need to pay for Tapiriik. It's much quicker and simpler.

Thanks Glenda. That's very cool. I can see how that is perfect for you when you want your Garmin data in TP for your coach and Strava for you. Tapiriik is automatic? So you don't need to go in and initiate a manual upload like we do now with Strava?
It's a nice solution, although I would prefer not to have another link in the chain. It's one more thing to go wrong.

For anyone wanting to use the Tapiriik solution Glenda mentioned, here is a step by step guide. It also has a review of two other options...

It seems the main difference is Tapiriik syncs to more sites, but on a 60 min cycle and CopyMySports mainly does Strava, but on a 15 min cycle. I need to research whether there is any loss in data completeness in any of these uploads.
