Crawley sprint triathlon report and results
Report by Georgie Butler:
Last Sunday, beneath an entirely and somewhat ominous grey sky, five of us made the relatively short trek to Crawley's K2 centre for the Crawley Tri Club's Sprint and Super Sprint Triathlons.
The 600/400m swim was in a brilliant 50m pool (made even more enjoyable if you weren't set to start last because you'd messed up your estimated swim time – which I totally did not do), followed by a 350m dash to T1 before a 5mph-enforced weave through some pedestrian tunnels led out onto the bike course. The 22k was a relatively flat out and back route along the A264, though its lack of marshals did cause some people to loop a roundabout more than once (not that we're looking at you, Gabi). For Sprint competitors the 6k run (4k for the Super Sprint) started across the Crawley AC's track and wound into the local (and not at all flat!) woods, before finally doubling back for an exciting sprint finish along a stretch of the athletic track again.
Though there were only a few of us, 7Oaks Tri Club did itself proud, with Gabi coming a phenomenal 2nd in the women's Sprint distance (with me a scuppered nine seconds behind her) and Ness achieving 2nd in her age group (and only pipped to the post in the last 400m)! Ben came in a very respectable and impressive eight place overall, while Nikki also managed to secure eighth place in the Super Sprint, for what's only her second ever triathlon, so congratulations and well done Nikki!
