KFL Deal Cross country results

SAC team at Deal

The temperature was sub-zero as seven 7oaks tri members left Sevenoaks, but it warmed up through the morning and conditions for the race were ideal for running – cold, but clear and sunny.

KFL Swanley park cross country results

It was unseasonably mild for the second round of the Kent Fitness League. The three laps of the undulating Swanley park were not too muddy despite the heavy rain the day before. The Sevenoaks ac team was 31 strong in a field of over 500 runners! This included nine 7oaks tri members:

‘A Season of two Halves and Halfs’ - Ben Bridges

I’ve spent a few years as a club member enviously reading the exploits of so many of you awesome athletes, thinking that I hadn’t really done anything noteworthy to write about. So I had to change all of that. Not just so I had something to write about but it does help!

Kent Fitness League Match 1 Knole park results

Knole park presented a particularly picturesque landscape on Sunday 25th October for the opening round of this season's cross country running league. It was warm and the sun was shining on the autumnal colours for the 500 or so runners from all over the county. Despite the rain the previous night, the ground was not too slippery for 40 Sevenoaks athletics club competitors who romped home to victory in the mixed team and male team result beating 17 other athletics clubs. The female team also came 4th, greatly assisted by 7oaks tri members Cath Linney and Sally Mortleman.

Kentish Killer 28th Feb 2016 - early entry for 7Oaks Tri members

This from our friends at GS Avanti -:

"This link is exclusive to 7Oaks. It means your membership can sign up and pay for the event – and you will see that you have two reserved time slots. The link is available until registration goes public on 1 November. Please share with your club members. After 1 November it will be pot luck, not least because the long route typically sells out within 48 hours".

Club Hill Climb 2015

Some excellent performances on a mild October morning (and some hungover and sleep deprived and first on a bike in a month performances too!).

Thanks to Tony L, Dave T, Neil C, Neil Mc and all other helpers for making it possible.

Thursday Night Turbo Training Sessions With Paul Butler From PB Cycle Coaching

Dear All

I am pleased to inform you that they’ve only gone and invited me back again!

Yes, starting on 5th November I’ll be delivering a second winter of turbo training classes at the Methodist Church on The Drive in Sevenoaks every Thursday from 7.30pm to 9.00pm.

Velocity Events Tri & Weir Wood Swim event

Velocity Events end of season race/BBQ

On Sunday 4th October Mike Hawkins organised a Sprint Tri followed by a BBQ at the water sports centre at Lydd. This was free to athletes who had accumulated enough points in his race series in 2015. Others could pay (that was me but well worth it)

A lake swim in October can be a bit cold but the sun shone and the weather for the race was wonderful.

We BBQ'd by the lake in the autumn sun wearing T-shirts and shorts.

MTB Welsh week-ender

by Charlie Mortleman

Always going to be interesting this one, with protaganists including regulars “the 4 amigos” (me, Sally, Big Al and Baz), occasional Andy Linney, and week-ender virgins Andy Evans, Pete (non Tri Club) and his eminence Martin Brown (no less). Simon “Blewitt” Truett had to pull out at the last minute.

Shirkers - A Daytrip to Majorca

Rather disappointingly the organisers of 2015 Tour de France seemed to ignore my requests to ensure a stage passed close enough to Calais for the International Shirkers to fit in a daytrip, but out of this disappointment was born the idea of the Majorca Daytrip !

“Can’t be done, it’s too expensive!” said some, “Too much hassle, it’s not worth the effort!” said others, but undeterred, a hard core of International Shirkers rose to the challenge to take on the ultimate (so far) Shirkers Day Out on 30 September.

Claire Hitchings takes silver at the Cross Triathlon World Championships

In 2015 I turn 45 and I wanted to mark the year somehow…I came up with racing a triathlon or duathlon each month; ideally events I’d never done before, in nice locations and off-road. The final event would be the Cross Triathlon World Championships in Sardinia.

Ironman Wales - I picked a doozy for a first Ironman!

"Never again" - Matt Bee, 13th September 2015

They were the first words out my mouth after completing possibly the hardest thing I have ever undertaken. While I might be coming round to doing another iron distance triathlon, it'll be a slightly easier one next time!

Preparation with Paul Butler as coach was good, up until the birth of our first child, Freddy - who interrupted the training just a tad!  So 2 months of very little training and we were off to Wales.

Challenge Weymouth 2015. ETU European Long Distance Championship

The Met Office has given up trying to forecast the weather in Weymouth. It’s got it’s own micro climate”, the volunteer showing me round transition shook his head sagely. Friday had seen gale force winds and big waves. On Saturday people were sunbathing on the beach. Race day? Who knew. This would be my fourth outing in the GB Trisuit that chafes in places other suits can’t even think of and it would turn out to be…….interesting.

You know you have those days when everything goes perfectly. Well this wasn’t one of those days.

7Oaks Tri retains Inter Club Trophy and wins the 4-up TTT - 12/9/15 (PHOTOS ADDED)

Desite earlier on in the season Sydenham having a healthy lead and latterly GS Avanti looking uncatchable, 7Oaks put in a great last minute surge supported by the club's top riders and romped home in the 4-up TTT on a rainy A20. Andy Ten-Broeke, Martin Brown, Chris Hansen and Neil McInerney were the fastest on the day beating Sydenham by just 19 seconds. Third team home was also 7Oaks with Steve Walker, Neil Harris, Sam Begg and Dan Goscomb just 25 seconds behind Sydenham.

Podium places for Begg and Hitchings at the Europeans

Sam Begg and I took second male and third female places respectively at the European Off-Road Triathlon Championships. The event was held at Vachery Estate in Cranleigh, Surrey on 30 August. The race was a 1,500m lake swim, a 30km mountain bike and an 10km trail run. Two hundred and 61 athletes took to the start line including 19 male and 16 female professional athletes. Sam finished 2nd of the non-professionals in a time of 2hr 53 minutes and in doing so scalped a few pros and held off the female pro winner Lesley Paterson.
