Thorpe Park Oly Distance Race Report

by Shaun Mullen

The weather report you don’t want to see before kicking off a triathlon is ‘wet and windy’ but that’s what we got. Luckily I was spared the biblical downpour that hit just as I crossed the finish line. Sam Begg won the race so he probably didn’t see a drop of rain.

Thorpe park Olympic results

It was an early start for ten 7oaks tri club members when they left to compete in the new Thorpe park Olympic distance triathlon. The swim started at 07:00 in a large water sports lake in the centre of the park going under a bridge full of spectators twice.

The bike course set out a single circuit of an ‘undulating’ course through the countryside. Halfway through the bike was when the rain started to fall!

Report from David Skrobanek from his first 1/2 IM in Marlow.

by David Skrobanek

On Sunday I participated on my first ever Half distance triathlon. The place I chose was great – Marlow. I read a lot of good reviews and I am happy to confirm that it was very well organized and friendly race in a beautiful countryside alongside the Thames river. Also very family friendly, which those who know me know, that it is very important for me.

Q10/25 Results - 9 July

Not a good turn out from 7Oaks Tri for this one although the ones who did turn up all finished in the top half of the field with Neil Harris being the fastest on the night and the improving Neil McInerney just under a minute behind and in third place. Andy Evans did a PB for this course and knocked over 30 seconds off his previous best time. Poor Janice who was our only lady rider took a tumble near the end but reported in as being "fine" the morning after.

Staffordshire 70.3 Race Report

"you are not a true triathlete until you have done an ironman " I was told by the iron ladies in the club. So as I went up into the next age group this year it seemed like a good time to press the button! That done I was then told "well you had better do a half ironman in preparation for the full one"! So Debbie and I (Thelma and Louise) entered the new ironman 70.3 uk with a promise that it was flat and fast.... Not.

ITU long course World Champs, Motala, Sweden - 1.5km/ 120km/30km

by Jane Wiley

I'd heard of the Vatterunden, the largest bike ride in the world,  around Lake Vattern, Sweden and had a disastrous long distance champs ( dehydrated in Perth, Australia ) in my memory bank so put my name forward for the GB contingent at this year's ITU long distance world champs in Motala,  Sweden.....  To visit Sweden, be part of a team and lance that demon.

2 up TT (Q10/24) Grain - 27 June

Two teams took part from 7Oaks Tri. Fastest team on the day - Brown/McInerney

Leeds Castle Triathlon Report

It may be rightly billed as "the loveliest castle in the world" but as a group of 7oaks club members discovered at the weekend it has world's the muddiest moat. Allied to zero vision was the challenge of getting 350 competitors swimming under a castle arch - at least you could stand up if you needed to as long as you didnt mind the feel of a couple of hundred years of mud on your feet...

We were yet again blessed with glorious weather for the 26th White oak triathlon in Swanley on Sunday. For the first time they were running a double distance ‘standard’ event which 40 people completed. Cath Linney finished 3rd overall, Comfortably winning the Female category by some 14 mins! In the 200 strong sprint event Jo Stephens-Smith was first F50 (2nd female) and Andy Evans 22nd overall (5th M40). Steve Searby’s bike unfortunately let him down with a mechanical failure.

Ocean Lake Tri Race 2 - 7Oaks Club Sprint Champs

Fourteen+ members, as appearing in the splendid photo below, took part in the clubs sprint championship at the Ocean Lake sprint tri on Saturday 30th May.

With Cath and Sam in their current form, the result of club champs, barring a puncture, were going to be a forgone conclusion. Nevertheless in near perfect conditions there were some excellent performances and age group wins with some quiet personal competitions being fought.
