I entered this race knowing little about it as it is a new IM event and a new course. A few of us did a bike recce the day before the race (better late than never) ... all of us on the bus fell silent after about 10mins....steep climbs that went on and on. The bus was too big to get down the other side – so we had to back down to turnaround. I saw the descent on race day... for those of you frequently are caught behind me on a descent, you can imagine the hundreds behind me at the top of this descent and the start of a 1.5 kms of hair pin bends – they all whizzed past me.
Andy Ten-Broeke, Andy Evans, Chris Hansen & Dave Lobley completed the stage 4 accreditation at the Lee Valley Velopark on Sunday 17th May.
They are now qualified to attend 'Structured Quality Training' sessions and enter races! Licenced to thrill!
It was a very enjoyable evening where 12 riders (Keith Brown was also there) had to accurately perform five different disciplines including 'stacking' (not that type) and sprinting to the line!
I'm still buzzing from the excitement of riding this last Saturday - a sportive around the perimeter of Mallorca, over 14,110 feet of climbing which I'd usually prefer to pass on, but not there, the scenery is breathtaking! When you are not climbing, the descents and rolling terrain are fantastic... mostly on lovely smooth, quiet roads and the locals come out to cheer you on.
May Bank Holiday saw the return of the very popular Tonbridge Triathlon. The event, now in its twenty fourth year, is organised by Tonbridge Lions Club and involves swimming in Tonbridge School's pool, a 'sporting' cycle through beautiful Kent countryside up Plaxtol hill, down Carter's hill and a run round Tonbridge School sports ground, culminating on the renowned running track.

British Triathlon always takes a big team to this event which is run by Powerman Holland. This year it was 10km run/60km bike/10km run. The 2015 team was 50 strong with some genuine medal contenders...and others just there for the experience (that's me then). Horst is a nice little town in Limburg, less than 4 hours drive from Calais. The course is pan flat on closed roads. The biggest hill on the bike is a speed bump. The only real challenge is the number of dead turns. I imagine it's a bit like a criterium without the drafting.
Bloomin’ eck this was hard. Three hours of fighting a losing battle against mud and rain and wind!
Sam Begg and I (Claire Hitchings) were the hardy ones from the tri club to enter the Triathlon England National Cross Duathlon Championships at Hole Park last weekend. The event comprised a 10 k run, 26 k mountain bike, followed by a 5 k run.
The strong wind did not stop some fast times and putting us in the lead after the first event. Well done everyone.
