Leeds castle club standard triathlon results

Sixteen club members got up early on Sunday to head down past maidstone to compete in the picturesque and well organised Leeds castle standard (Olympic) triathlon. The first wave was for the women and teams, with Cath Linney clearly first out of the water and going on to comfortably win the female race by 12 minutes over 2nd place lady, Jane Wiley who also won the F50 category! Val Place was 4th lady home and 2nd F50!

Ideally the second wave of 200 men should have been split in two as the swim was very 'congested', particularly whilst navigating the many tight turns round the buoys. It was an interesting two lap swim going under ancient arches of the castle though the water was very shallow and muddy! The roads were damp but the rain held off for the bike course which was the Harrietsham 25 TT course with a tailwind heading out down towards Ashford and a headwind coming back. The run was off road on grass through fields surrounding the castle incorporating two particularly steep ascents for each of the two laps. There were some magnificant views heading back down towards the castle where there was quite a crowd of spectators and supporters.

Sam Begg was the first 7oaks tri member home, finishing 2nd to an outstanding elite athlete, Thomas Davis, and ahead of 3rd place by 5 minutes. Steve Searby was the 2nd club member home in 13th place winning the M50 category! James Baker was 3rd M50 home. Well done to Matt Wall, Louise Strong and Georgia Butler for finishing their first Olympic triathlon! (Sorry if I've missed anyone out - please let me know)
