. Just in from Mick Barstow....and another from Dave Truman, and Katrina Patching wins Age Group on her Olympic debut! JB Well an interesting experience – being the first wave of competitors in the first ever Dartford Tri (in the sprint race) - we were the test group for the organisers and marshals for the Olympic race that followed. I nearly ran over a marshal coming out of T1 who didn’t tell me to do a 90 degree turn in front of him (as I was cycling at 25mph towards him). Then got to the run section to be told after the first lap to head to the finish line – having crossed it and been congratulated for winning, I was then told I had to do another lap (after a 2 minute warm down and stretch!). I set off to find there was a competitor ahead of me, but he was sent the wrong way by a marshal, so I found myself back at the finish again crossing the line in first place. All a bit bizarre but nevertheless a fast and fun course and one for the annual calendar now they have done the test event.

The swim course was very complicated with lots of turns.
The bike course was great. It was a four mile closed road lap. Problem was you had to do 6 full laps and then another 1/2 lap which was confusing.
The run was OK.
It would be nice to have times accurate times for everyone as there were some really good performances, especially Cath Linney and Holly who was doing her first Olympic tri.
Mick's time was however accurate at 2.14.32 - 63/236

22nd in Category 2:34:16 DT This was my 2nd Standard Distance. Last year I did 2:55 at South Cerney (Cirencester) so I'm pleased with a 21 minute improvement. My Garmin showed 2:31 at the finish, I'm not sure why the 3 minute discrepancy. Perhaps it went into pause mode during transition as I wasn't moving.... The swim was definitely short. Pleased with a 1:07:50 bike. I went "full pointy hat". I'm sure I did the course right. I had 6 pieces of tape on my tri bars and pulled one off after each lap (a lesson here for the others who couldn't count! - Ed). Then I knew I had only 1/2 a lap to go. Something is wrong with Steve's time. He overtook me on the bike, yet his time is slower. A lot of drafting, but it was really unavoidable. Too many bikes in a small space for the first few laps. Some key learning points for the organizers and for me. I won't put up with a stone in my shoe again. My sock was a bloody mess when I took it off and I won't be able to run for a week. I'll do this race again. Great to have so many people from the club there. It made it feel really like a "home" race. But I hope they sort out the zig zag swim and the complicated bike course.
