New Year Madness E-mail

Happy New Year everyone!

Another year ticks past, but what a great one we all have to look forward to.  Some club members chose to greet the New Year in the only way a true  7Oaks-ian knows, a run through a muddy field or a dip in a freezing lake!

Mark Evans comes up smelling fine, he came 29th out of 252 finishers rather the worse for wear, dressed as a daffodil.

Penshurst New Year Cross-Country

Some members could not wait to get 2012 off to a competitive start. A small, friendly and competitive field of 99 took part in the annual Penshurst 5 mile cross-country. The race is held on the first Sunday of the New Year which, of course, was New Year's Day this year. An 11.30am start allowed those nursing hangovers a nice lie-in and a 'hair of the dog' before setting off on the hilly 5 mile route. The course was much drier than in previous years but nevertheless still dicey in places. This together with surprisingly mild temperatures made for a nice leg stretch and the opportunity to put any New Year's Resolutions into practice for one day at least.

On the whole a nice low-key and well-organised race with all the profits going to charity, and free tea and cakes for all finishers!
